Welcome to the Future Minds Page for Gifted and Talented Students. Please feel free to contact us.
Marsden believes that it is important to cultivate students' talents and signs of giftedness. We appreciate that students have a wide range of abilities in different areas. As a result, it is important to give all students the opportunity to participate in a range of activities that take their interest. We aim to stimulate, enrich and engage students through exposure to arts, culture, academia, lectures and competitions that extend them beyond what is offered in the classroom.
In class approach to extension
We aim to extend students in class though the use of projects, big picture questions and curriculum that is specifically designed for your daughter. Classroom teachers encourage gifted students to embrace their interests by providing work that provides challenges and allows opportunities for independent learning.
Future Minds Enrichment and Extension
Future Minds is an enrichment and extension programme open to all students. Our aim is to extend students through exposure to a wide range of experiences or to help them develop areas of particular interest. Our weekly lunchtime sessions are held in Waihanga (the Makerspace) which means we have access to the 3D printer, laser cutter, and various robotics equipment. We offer various activities and competitions throughout the year, often bringing in experts or guest speakers to run workshops or activities. In 2018, our programme will be centered around the 21st Century Skills Lab Programme, helping students to further develop skills and qualities vital for their learning and beyond.
Our 2018 programme begins with chess! We have an expert tutor coming in to run a 7-week course that will teach the fundamentals of the game. As well as being fun we believe this will allow students to develop valuable cognitive and problem-solving skills.
