Week 10

We held an Easter Egg hunt for Preschool students at the end of last week. They loved the challenge and looked high and low in the playground and gardens to find a sweet treat, helping anyone who couldn't find one! As part of Commonwealth Games awareness this week we have had students out on the big playing field trying long jump. See more photos in the Week 10 media gallery at right. (05/04/2018)

Week 9

Preschool students enjoyed a visit to Principal Narelle Umbers' office late last week to find out about her job and to present some paintings they had done specially for her. Ms Umbers read them a story, which they loved. This week they have been preparing for Easter, decorating paper eggs and making 'surprise' chocolate treats. With the weather being somewhat unpredictable, students have rediscovered the carpentry table and groups of them have been very busy building things. Week 8

From the bush to the beach Preschool have covered it all this week with a trip to Zealandia and a colourful beach dressup day. Unlike at a theme park, our students had to look really hard to see tuis, fantails, stick insects, Kaka, North Island Robin and Saddleback in the bush. Zealandia staff were able to answer most of our students questions and we will continue to research why there are not so many birds now in the coming weeks and the impact of humans and predators on our environment. Week 7

Everyone looks forward to Bike Day at Marsden Preschool, a chance to decorate their helmets, jump on bikes or scooters and whizz around the special circuit laid out on the netball courts. Our students really enjoyed a puppet show in the Cultural Centre on Monday. They have also continued their research into 'Ourselves and Our Community' and are preparing for a trip to Zealandia next week by painting a wonderful mural of trees and adding collage birds which is up on the wall in Preschool now. Their list of really interesting bird questions to ask at Zealandia is very cool, eg: Do birds have warm or cold blood? How many bones do Tui have? How did Moa die? How do ducks dive? We look forward to the answers. See more photos in the Week 7 media gallery at right. (15/03/2018)

Week 6

Preschool students discovered some interesting statistics when they drew and graphed their families this week as part of their continuing research into "Ourselves and Our Community. The majority of them live in households of 5 or 6 people! Wet weather has meant more inside time and students enjoyed creating and operating a shop out of Imanginz blocks and matching numbers with the Thomas the Tank Engine Dominoes. They toured the main school looking at artwork and checked out the Waihanga Lego Wall. Fine spells enabled some outside play and climbing trees is a firm favourite with our students. They never seem to tire of this simple activity.  See more photos in the Week 6 media gallery at right. (08/03/2018)

Week 5

A visit from Little Dribblers and learning soccer skills was one of the highlights from the week at Preschool. They even set up a penalty shootout which was quite a contest and lots of fun. The children also enjoyed their Chinese lesson with Ms Wang, she taught them the word for dragon and showed them pictures of all sorts of different dragons. Our current topic is 'ourselves and our community' and this has started with our students painting self-portraits, they will continue with their families and home and then eventually look at the wider community with a trip to Zealandia. Week 3

Preschool have enjoyed 2 lovely outdoorsy events this week. First the Teddy Bear's Picnic lunch on the tennis courts with Year 1-3 Primary students. Our students did love bringing their favourite bear to Preschool for the day. The second was our water play day. This was very exciting and a lot noisier as our students revelled in plenty of soggy fun. See more photos in the Week 3 media gallery at right. (15/02/2018)

Term 1 begins, Weeks 1 and 2

A very warm welcome to all our Preschoolers and their families. Term 1 has started really positively at Preschool with students making a Class Treaty. With 8 new students starting this term it's been busy, but everyone is settling very well. They've enjoyed their first session with Mr O'Connor in the Primary Library and discovered the joy of choosing their own books. There's also been lots of outdoor play. A great start!
