Career Information Evening 2018
Every year we hold a career information evening at the Karori campus for Year 10 to 13 students from Whitby and Karori. This year I surveyed the senior students to ask if there were any particular career areas that interested them. Their answers included science research, biomedical science, music, art, photography, classics, project management, international business, genetics, astronomy and veterinary science. If you think you may be able to share your knowledge of careers in any of these areas, or if you know of anyone whom you think may be able to help, please contact susan.binns@marsden.school.nzI would also love to hear from anyone who would like to take part, or has suggestions about speakers in other fields. The evening will be on 17 May from 7.00pm-8.30pm.https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif

Notice of Increase in Cryptosporidiosis Notifications
Regional Public Health has noted an increase in the number of gastro illnesses caused by the bug cryptosporidium. This has been especially for children using the Raumati splash pad around Wellington Anniversary weekend. The splash pad has closed for cleaning.

It usually takes 7 days (sometimes from 1 to 12) for symptoms to show after you have been infected. The symptoms are usually watery diarrhoea and stomach cramps and usually get better on their own in a few days. It is important to stay home and drink plenty of fluids while ill. If you are worried about the symptoms you can see your family doctor or call Healthline 0800 611 116.

People with crypto are still infectious after the diarrhoea stops. To stop other people getting sick, stay away from school or preschool until 48 hours with no diarrhoea.  Good hand washing and drying is very important to stop the bug spreading to others.

It is also important not to use swimming pools (including splash pads) for two weeks after the diarrhoea has stopped. The bug can spread easily in pools.

More information about crypto and preventing spread in swimming pools is available at:

There is both a senior and junior Space Camp and the opportunity is open to girls from Years 8 to 13.  It is our intention that the Alliance of Girls’ Schools Space Camp becomes a regular feature of the school calendar, so if you don’t get to go this year, there will be other opportunities.

Prayermatters
Our Chaplain Sarah King convenes a group of parents, grandparents and staff who pray for the school community each week.  Those who are part of the group receive an email with requests, which are held confidentially by the prayer group members.  If you would like to be part of this prayer group, or if there is something you would like the group to pray for, please contact Sarah on sarah.king@marsden.school.nzor 027 491 2245.
