Makeup Workshop for 'Alice'
A reminder to those students who have signed up for this to arrive at 12:50pm this Sunday to learn some new skills.  The rehearsal schedule for this week is attached here.

ICAS
(International Competitions and Assessments for School) Science Competition
The ICAS Science Competition is being held on Tuesday 29 May 2018 and is optional for all students in Years 7 to 13.  Please find more information about entering in the attached letter.  Entries must be in by Friday 13 April.

Give it a Go Afternoon – Friday 13 April
The Student Sports Committee is organising an afternoon of activities for Years 7-13 on Friday 13 April.  Dress code for the day is Marsden tracksuit with the school hoodie and sports light blue t-shirt or house t-shirt.  If your daughter does not have tracksuit pants they can wear plain black leggings.

MASC Holiday Programme
We are running a holiday programme for Years 1-8 in the first week of the holiday break. The cost per day is $55 + gst 8am - 6pm - please contact Jo Sherlock if you would programme details or to enrol your child jo.sherlock@marsden.school.nz


Marsden Friends of Football
Marsden Friends of Football will be holding their first committee meeting of the year, on Monday 9 April, at 5pm in the Whina Cooper Room at school.  Help shape the future of Football at Marsden!  We need your help, just a little over an hour every month during the Football season will ensure our young Committee continues to grow.  Parents and Caregivers, please join us, without any commitment, to see if you would like to be part of this team. We are delighted to share our first Newsletter for the year, which brings to you, current Football and Futsal News from Marsden Friends of Football.  

Movie Night!!!

Grab your daughters and your girlfriends and join the team from the 2018 Fiji Service Trip for a night at the movies. All proceeds will go to the St. James School in Levuka, Fiji. Tickets are $20 and you can purchase them from any of the girls going on the trip or email: arunthatom@hotmail.com.

The Entertainment books are being delivered next week and will go home with the eldest child on Tuesday.  If you do not want to purchase the Entertainment book please return the book in its envelope to reception, in either the Primary or Upper Schools as soon as possible.

Through The Blue Fundraiser
We want YOU to join our journey!
Through The Blue is a charitable trust established with the goal of providing high school teachers with the knowledge, resources, and confidence, to initiate early intervention and help prevent mental health illness developing in New Zealand classrooms.  In April 2018, Director of Marsden rowing and teacher aide Rachel Gamble-Flint (and 3 other Wellington women) will be rowing 100 km from Picton Rowing Club, across the Cook Strait, to Wellington Rowing Club. Winter Uniform
Winter uniform is compulsory from the beginning of Term 2.

School Holiday Uniform Shop Opening Day and Hours
The Uniform shop will be open in the school holidays on Thursday 26 April from 8am till 1pm to purchase your winter uniform and sports gear.

Year 7-13 Speech and Drama Students
Drama night is on Thursday 10 May starting at 6pm in the Auditorium.  Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Year 9 Social Sciences Trip
On Wednesday 16 May all Year 9s will spend the day learning outside of the classroom.  We will have normal class period one, departing during period 2 to travel by bus to Te Papa.  There we will have a self-guided tour of the 'Gallipoli, the scale of our War' exhibition.  They will also explore the 'Passports' exhibition and 'The Mixing Room', where the students will consider the concept of migration, along with human rights.  They will also be focussing on how artefacts are exhibited in preparation for their ancestry exhibition in Term 3.  We will then walk to Parliament where the groups will have time viewing the debating chambers and touring parliament as a part of our human rights unit.  They will all be dismissed from Parliament at 3pm.  The Year 9 Social Sciences teachers Anita Stark, Callie Ballara, Rebecca George, along with Geography teacher Elsie Jolliffe will be on the trip.  Please contact Fiona Crawford if you have any questions on fiona.crawford@marsden.school.nz

NCEA
Students new to NCEA this year will shortly receive some information about NCEA from NZQA and a copy of the November NCEA examinations timetable. Please ensure that the dates and times of examinations are carefully noted.  Any clashes will be dealt with by the Examination Centre Manager nearer the time.  The examination timetable is also available for everyone here.
Students of Level 1 Mathematics should also note that their MCAT (Mathematics Common Assessment Task) examination will take place on Thursday 20 September.  This is essentially the same as a November examination in that students must be present on that day to sit this examination.

Waihanga/Makerspace
The Waihanga/Makerspace would like donations of the following:
- Lego
- old but working smart phones
- old electronic toys/devices that no longer work
- fabric/wool
If you have any of these please drop off at Reception.

Arrowsmith at Marsden 
There are some places available in the Arrowsmith Program at Marsden. Please see here for more information. 
There will be an information afternoon on Wednesday 30 May from 4.30pm -5.30pm in the Arrowsmith room. Tea and coffee will be provided. Current students and their parents will attend this session to share their experiences of the program. You can also find out more on the Arrowsmith website https://arrowsmithschool.org/

Reminder about Absences
Please notify the School by 8.30am of your child’s absence or lateness.  Please email absences@marsden.school.nz or call (04) 476 8792 Ext 701.  You can also communicate your child’s absence via the School App. Messages may be left 24 hours a day.  Parents are asked not to request leave or time out of school for students during the term unless absolutely necessary.  If an absence is required the request should be made well in advance, in writing, to the Principal.  Dental and medical appointments and driving lessons should be made outside of school hours.
