Dear Parents and Whānau

EOTC week has gone really well and the girls have enjoyed a range of trips from the Island Bay Marine Education Centre, the Discovery Garden at the Botanic Gardens, and roller skating and kayaking after a train ride to Upper Hutt. None of this would be possible without parent help and we thank you sincerely.

Our Character Strength for next week is Bravery and fittingly the week will begin as we recognise this term’s Year 6 leaders.

Kia pai tō rā whakatā – have a great weekend!

Director of Primary

Primary Music Groups
This year we have a busy schedule in the Primary music department with class music lessons for ocarina, violin, recorder and ukulele, plus the Year 1-4 Junior Choir occurring throughout the year.

On top of this exciting program I will also be running three music groups each week as outlined below. Each group provides different opportunities for your daughter to participate in, with some programmes running the full year and others changing by term.

Chapel Choir - Terms 1-4
The Year 5/6 Chapel Choir rehearses on Friday mornings 8:00am - 8:40am. The choir will perform at school and community events throughout the year.

Primary Orchestra  - Terms 1-4
This music group is for all musicians who have been learning an instrument for more than a year. It will be running all year and supports many school events. Orchestra will be held in the Primary Music room on Wednesdays, from week 4, at 12:40pm -1:15pm. Any instruments which are bought into school for orchestra can safely be stored in the music room for the day if required.

Percussion Group - Term One
From Week 4 on a Friday from 12:40pm -1:15pm in the Primary music room. This is a new group for enthusiastic percussionists and drummers from Years 1-6.

Ukulele Group - Term Two
For Year 1-6 students who would like to learn to play the ukulele. It will be held on a Friday lunchtime in the Primary music room from 12:40pm - 1:15pm

Recorder Group - Terms Three and Four
For Year 4-6 students who would like to, are or have learnt the recorder to join ensemble playing on a range of recorders. This group will be held on a Friday lunchtime in the primary music room from 12:40 - 1:15.

Notice of increase in cryptosporidiosis notifications
Regional Public Health has noted an increase in the number of gastro illnesses caused by the bug cryptosporidium. This has been especially for children using the Raumati splash pad around Wellington Anniversary weekend. The splash pad has closed for cleaning.

It usually takes 7 days (sometimes from 1 to 12) for symptoms to show after you have been infected. The symptoms are usually watery diarrhoea and stomach cramps and usually get better on their own in a few days. It is important to stay home and drink plenty of fluids while ill. If you are worried about the symptoms you can see your family doctor or call Healthline 0800 611 116.

People with crypto are still infectious after the diarrhoea stops. To stop other people getting sick, stay away from school or preschool until 48 hours with no diarrhoea.  Good hand washing and drying is very important to stop the bug spreading to others.

It is also important not to use swimming pools (including splash pads) for two weeks after the diarrhoea has stopped. The bug can spread easily in pools.

More information about crypto and preventing spread in swimming pools is available at:
