Scholars' Awards Criteria

Our Scholars’ Assembly at the end of Term One celebrates the excellent achievements of Marsden students in their NCEA, Cambridge, Scholarship or other qualifications of  the previous year.

Our top performing students receive Scholars’ Awards which are divided into two categories: Scholars’ badges (to acknowledge excellence) and Scholars’ colours (to acknowledge outstanding achievement).A recipient may only receive one of these awards.

The Marsden Scholars’ Badge
Criteria for a Marsden Scholar’s badge at Level 1:

Awarded to all students who have gained NCEA Level 1 endorsed with Excellence (ie 50 or more Excellence credits) after completing their first full year of study at that level.

Criteria for a Marsden Scholar’s badge at Level 2:
Awarded to all students who have gained NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Excellence (ie 50 or more Excellence credits) after completing their first full year of study at that level OR who have at least 46 Excellence credits and an A pass in Cambridge.

Criteria for a Marsden Scholar’s badge at Level 3:
Awarded to all students who have gained NCEA Level 3 endorsed with Excellence (ie 50 or more Excellence credits)
OR
who have at least 46 Excellence credits AND an A pass in Cambridge or a Scholarship pass
OR
who have at least 42 Excellence  credits AND an A pass in Cambridge AND a Scholarship pass.

Marsden Scholars' Colours
Criteria for a Marsden Scholars’ colours award at Level 1:
Awarded to all students who have gained 100 or more Excellence credits at Level 1 or above.
NB Discretionary colours may be awarded to students who have strong NCEA results and who have also gained excellent results in qualifications, which may be beyond their year level, such as Cambridge or Scholarship.

Criteria for a Marsden Scholars’ colours award at Level 2:
Awarded to all students who have gained 80 or more Excellence credits at level at Level 2 or above
OR
at least 75 Excellence credits plus one A pass in Cambridge
NB Discretionary colours may be awarded to students who have strong NCEA results and who have also gained excellent results in qualifications, which may be beyond their year level, such as Cambridge A level or Scholarship.

Criteria for a Marsden Scholars’ colours award at Level 3:
Awarded to all students who have gained 75 or more Excellence credits at Level 3
OR
3 or more Scholarships
OR
2 Outstanding Scholarships
OR
At least 70 Excellence credits at Level 3 AND one of (Scholarship / Cambridge A pass)
OR
At least 60 Excellence credits at Level 3 AND two of (Scholarship / Cambridge A pass)
OR
At least 55 Excellence credits AND one Outstanding Scholarship PLUS one of (Scholarship / Cambridge A pass)
NB Discretionary colours may be awarded to students whose outstanding results are not covered by these criteria.
