Playing and enjoying music at Marsden can give students a life-long appreciation of the performing arts.
Marsden has a wonderful music programme. We have choirs, orchestras, rock bands, flute ensembles and handbell ringing, as well as the academic Music curriculum.

Girls may take individual or group lessons in a wide variety of instruments. See Cultural Booklet under Resources for full details of the music groups offered at Marsden.

Lessons are organised within the school timetable where possible.

Composer in Residence

Highly valued at Marsden is the Composer in Residence programme where a composer works at the school for five weeks, taking workshops with the girls and composing a piece of music for the school.

The annual Swainson Memorial Music Competition is the flagship competition for our top musicians. Two major awards are made at this prestigious event, the Betty Swainson Memorial Music Award for the top performance on the night and the Nell Clere Music Scholarship awarded by the Old Girls' Association to the student showing the most musical potential.
